PSP – Marcus Rivers Is Kevin Butler

Recognizing the instant success of fiction spokesman Kevin Butler had on the distribution of the PS3, Sony will attempt to repeat the phenomenon with a mini version of the frank industry persona for its PSP brand. Continuing with the winning formula of comedy and biting satire (usually at the expense of Sony’s rivals), the pint-sized rendition is 12-year-old PSP owner Marcus Rivers.

As a way of introducing the character of the media, Marcus will appear with Kevin Butler in a new ad where the disgruntled PSP fanatic asks Butler why he’s not banging the PSP drum. A first for Butler, Marcus proceeds to leave the outspoken VP of Everything speechless as he delivers a tirade about how he can’t “rule the school bus” the way things currently stand. A side-swipe at the advent of smart-phone gaming, Marcus also talks about schooling “noob kids” playing on their phones. He promptly hires himself as a new “PSP hero, a hustler” who will take the fight to the masses.

More ads in sibling rivalry once again to play mobile phone games by promoting the wonders of ModNation Racers PSP, while Marcus ad extolling the virtues of future Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker said: “It does not like Prime animated games with the pieces of six years. This is a full-size exclusive Metal Gear on PSP. ”

Whether or not Marcus is universally accepted by the public to the same degree Kevin Butler remains to be seen, but it is good to see Sony try to revive interest in the PSP with what is now considered a winning strategy.

New PSP Spokesman – 12-Year-Old Marcus Rivers

Sony is planning to launch a new advertising campaign based on its successful series of PS3 ads featuring Kevin Butler. These new ads, targeted at potential consumers of its PSP handheld gaming system, will feature a 12-year-old fanboy named Marcus Rivers. This character is the brainchild of Deutsch LA, the same firm that created the “It Only Does Everything” campaign. The first new ad will air in June, viewers will be introduced by Marcus Butler. The self-appointed Deputy All Things PlayStation and demonstrate the various benefits of the PSP in the following ads.

One of those ads were Marcus complain of low power mobile phone games that are so popular among his schoolmates. In another ad, Marcus will talk about the next Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Thurs At the end of the Peace Walker trade, the voice of a narrator says, “not in its secrecy, its approach to history, Step your game. “The main selling points highlighted in these ads should be enhanced capabilities of the PSP games library of titles and the console-like.

In the early marketing campaigns PSP tend to focus on non-gaming features of the device, while targeting a hipper, older crowd. The new PSP adverts are aimed at a decidedly younger audience in the 10-14 year old bracket. It seems that Sony has decided to leave to focus on Nintendo non-traditional markets, while returning to its home base of young male consumers.
